Saturday Night Dinner and a Movie

Last Saturday, Barb, the lady I lived with last year, had Christina, Becca, and me over for homemade pizza and a movie. We watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding. This is also maple syrup season and Don was out in the sugar sack boiling sap to make some. I went out to talk with him and could not help but think of The Little House in the Big Woods, were Laura Ingles describes the syrup making adventures of her days.

Becca and Christina played pool. I generally refrain from playing anything that I cannot at least make a god showing in, so I refrained. :)

Science and Faith

I have been working on a project that deals with the nature of science and the nature of faith and how they relate. In my Google search, this chart came up again and again on different websites and blogs. In my naive way of thinking, I used to think that people did not really believe stuff like this or at least not anyone that I ran into. In my mind, my Christians would just exaggerate a bit and I did not really see the importance of knowing reasons for creationism; thats just what the Bible says. As I have spent more time talking with people, particularly at colleges, I have come to see the fallacy in my understanding. Often when I have asked people, if they believe the Bible, believe in God, have any religious affiliations, or similar questions, their response has been, "Well, I am a science major" or something along those lines. Sometimes I am tempted to say, "Your answer in no way answers my question!!" People see a wall between science and faith, that they contradict or should never over lap. This yields, atheism, agnosticism, or people who are religious for religion's sake. It leads to a denial of a person Creator who was revealed Himself and wants a relationship with mankind. If there is no relationship with God, that relationship cannot be broken. This continues in a downward spiral, with people's world view not allowing for the need of a Saviour. All that to say, I have learned that understanding what people are thinking and why God designed things the way He did is vital. Needless to say, I have very much enjoyed my study so far and I look forward to being able to adequately talk to people about Christ. Sorry for rambling....

Weekend in Indiana

This past weekend, Becca and I went down to Indiana to visit Andy and Sara Bramsen. We spent the weekend, playing games, eating great food, hanging out, watching Jane Austin's Persuasion and Emma, walking around Notre Dame, and catching up on sleep. :) They live less than four hours away, so its a shame that I have not been down there more often. Go Irish! Just kidding.

TEP website

Something I meant to mention earlier...
...last week the Ezekiel Project's (TEP) new website went up.
Pictures, statement of faith, ability to keep up with what is happening, detailed description of what TEP offers, a weekly devotional, and much more are available through the website. For anyone who does not know, I am enrolled in the second year of The Ezekiel Project School of Evangelism.
Check it out.

Happy 20th Birthday

Yesterday my roommate, Becca Wilson, turned 20. Tuesday night a group of us went out and then we had everyone over for dessert, hanging out, and a movie in honor of her day. I love birthdays because they give an excuse to celebrate and be with people. A few memories and things I love about Becca...
  • Her mercy
  • The way we can look at each other and tell what the other one is thinking.
  • Adore her laugh! She laughs at any joke, even if it is corny.
  • She always makes new people feel welcome, becomes interested in them, and just has the ability to talk with them.
  • How much she has changed over the past couple of years.
  • Late night chats, especially when we either needed to do homework or head to bed.
  • Randomness. Definitely a word to describe her.
  • The night she went around back to catch the screen that I pushed off the ledge.
  • Her ability to influence people. I know that I am not the same person because of her.
  • The spaceship.
  • We are always doing something wrong, funny, or at least story-worthy.
  • How she loves to tell stories about all sorts of things, but tends to forget important details.
  • See loves people and wants to see the lost come to Christ.
  • Her sweet tea.
  • Fighting over peaches.
  • Breaking the bed at the Grahams.
  • Enjoying the snow.
  • The encouragement she is to me.
  • Having another southern in this yankee place.
  • Having another girl student
  • Our apartment
  • Deciding to write a book.
  • A study buddy.
  • Her love for her family....
... and the list roles on.

Today

  • Today the second year students at TEPSE went to a local nursing home.
  • We sang for/along with the residents; some of them singing their hearts out, others smiling, still others just watching. They love "In the garden" and "It is well with my soul."
  • I watched a very proper elderly English gentleman, who had trusted Christ moments earlier, share the good news with one of the staff at the nursing home. Talk about a tear-jerker.
  • I talked with a 89-year-old woman who told me about the time her 20-year-old son called home to say he was going to be late for dinner. That was the last time they talked. He was killed in a car accident.
  • Today I got a post card from my grandma.
  • Today I studied I Timothy for my research paper.
  • Today I finally did laundry.
  • Tonight we are going out for wings with friends. BWW has a nice deal on Tuesdays.
  • Afterwards, we are having them over for dessert and just hanging out.
  • Jeanie is spending the night.
  • We are having a logic study section.
  • I talked to my little brother, Andrew where he informed me that China was bigger than the USA according to Grandma's map and his map....so it must be true!
Just wanted y'all to see what my days are like. I would say that this is a "normal" day, but all the days vary so much. Tomorrow is going to be completely different. Praise the Lord for that.
